Fri 31 Mar, 2023

Recommendation for releases from Vaal Dam on Friday 31 March: close (3) valves at 09H00 and leave two (2) open. It should be noted that the resultant outflow will be equivalent to the normal operation release. We have reached a milestone in terms of the outflow and timing is almost perfect. Today is technically the end of the high flow season in the summer rainfall regions. Therefore and starting from today, the issuing of release instructions will be suspended. However, we will continue the daily analyses and will resume the instructions if and when the weather and flow conditions justify it. On behalf of the Flood Monitoring and Forecasting Team at Head Office, may I express our appreciation of the cooperation with the team at Vaal Dam. We always received the gauge plate data and other information timely, at about 05H30 every day. This enabled us to perform the analyses in time and recommend interventions early enough for effective implementation.
